Tuesday, Tourist Day

What a fun day this was.  We went to the big city, as we always do, but this time it was pure pleasure.  Actually, we were a little east of Scotts Bluff, at Lake Minatare.  The lake is about 2200 acres, built in 1915, for irrigation.  Lake Minatare is also the home of one of only seven inland lighthouses in the country.  That was my main desire for going.  I like lighthouses, but my friend Irene, loves them.                         So Irene this one is for you!!!!

                                                          Lake Minatare Lighthouse
55 ft tall, built of stone
Tim catching a breath after the little hike up to the top
Silly Tim, trying to hide from the camera
A beautiful view of the lake from the atop
                                                                   of the lighthouse

This pic was supposed to be showing you the beach
                                                                  oops...I missed it

Next, we ventured to the Scotts Bluff National Monument.  We have passed it from the road many times.  So today was the day we drive through it.  It has 3 tunnels, and I found out, I get a little scared
traveling up high on skinny roads.  Even in the Badlands, I got a little nervous.  Must be my age.   It was a beautiful sight.  The Pony Express riders of 1860 followed the California Trail through one of the passes at Scotts Bluff.  The pioneers would see these large formations from a distance, and it would take days before the wagon trains reached them.

First of three tunnels needed get to the top
                                                                Number two tunnel
                                                             At the top looking down
                                                                 Down in the valley
Tim getting a good view of the Oregon Trail
And I'm sitting on the opposite side
                                                                    The safe side
                                                     One can find beauty anywhere
Even on the side of a rock
                                                         Time to start going down
Tim checking out a covered wagon

Internet to weak to continue, will finish tomorrow

Life is so good
Nite all
